This evening when walking the fields the sheep were lying very low in the grass hoping that the flies wouldn’t find them.
They looked like puddles of wool where ever they were, some even looked like they were dead they were so still.
I could walk right up to them and they would stay as still as possible hardly flicking an ear.
I got right up close to Wagtail only to discover why she was so very very still. There was a huge bot-fly on her back trying to lay it’s eggs.
I swatted away but couldn’t kill it. They are a nasty pest to the sheep and horses.
I made a short film showing what a sleeping sheep looks like so you can see why they can look like they are dead and you have to walk right up to them to make sure they are still alive.
