The ram lambs in their new field have no man made shelter from the rain only the canopy of trees. They have the choice of several different kinds of tree canopy’s to choose from in this field.
Ash trees do not make for a nice shelter from the rain.
Thier leaves being of a small multiple in nature allows the rain easy access to those trying to shelter below.
I moved down the fence line and the lambs followed me until we were under a big Horse Chestnut tree and the big broad leaves were like an umbrella keeping us dry despite the down pouring of rain.
The lambs came in close together to keep the rain away from their faces standing close to me their legs like a forest of young saplings.
After the down pouring of rain I had noticed we were short a few lambs so went out into the field to call the rest. They came galloping over from the shelter of a Beech tree.
